Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rededicated

Tuesday, May 26, 2015
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter delivered brief remarks and assisted Terry Williamson, President of the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to re-dedicate the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial before a crowd estimated at 1,000 spectators for the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Penn's Landing.

Ralph Galati, a former POW who spent 14 months in the "Hanoi Hilton," talked of his experiences and the importance of honoring veterans. The ceremony marked the end of a seven-year campaign to raise $1 million to refurbish the Memorial and open the Spruce Street side of the Memorial to create greater awareness and reduce vandalism. The entire project was completed this month.
